Volkswagen India has officially declared the launch date of the new generation Passat in India. The D-segment sedan will return to India on 10 October. Once launched, the new Passat will be competing with the likes of the Skoda Superb, Honda Accord and Toyota Camry.
The VW Passat will be launched in India after almost 3 years. The German carmaker has started the production of the sedan at their Aurangabad manufacturing facility in Maharashtra. Internationally, it was debuted in 2015, the Passat is in its 8th gen now. However, this will be third gen in India. The Passat becomes the second VW to be based on the MQB platform in India after the Tiguan.
The all-new Passat has got new family design. It will continue to have the same simple and sleek, graceful sedan lines. Being an important offering, the Passat will come with all that VW is known to offer. Under the hood will be a 2.0-litre turbocharged diesel engine producing 177bhp and 350Nm. Transmission is a six-speed DSG powering the front wheels. There might be a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine in the pipeline, but that will come later.
In India, the Passat is expected to be available in two trims – Comfortline and Highline. Prices are expected to be around Rs. 28 – 31 lakhs (ex-showroom).
