Volkswagen has made it public that it will be adding three new cars to its Indian lineup. They are Tiguan, Passat and the GTi.
The Tiguan SUV made its first public appearance in 2007 and is in its second-gen now. This SUV is based on the versatile MQB platform which supports a number of cars like Audi TT, Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Golf and Passat etc. In India, a 2.0-litre TDi engine will be powering the Tiguan, it will be mated to a 7-speed DSG transmission. With this car, VW will be entering the compact SUV segment in the India market.
The brand-new VW Passat went on sale internationally in 2015. Now, it is in its 8th gen, the new Passat will be launched in India with a 2.0 liter four-cylinder engine. It will produce 148bhp/340Nm with power going to the front wheels via a six-speed DSG. With this car, VW will re-enter into the D+ segment. After the launch of the Passat this year, we can also expect GTE hybrid variant to launch in India.
The GTi performance hatch was launched in India, in a limited number. For 2019 VW will come up with more number of cars to India in order to cater to the demand garnered by the hot hatch since its intro. Powered by a 1.8-litre four-cylinder TSI engine sending 189bhp to the front wheels via a seven-speed DSG transmission, the three-door hot hatch will be imported as a CBU.
Other than the new additions, the mid-life update of the Vento is also on its way. By launching new models, VW aims to create a ‘robust’ portfolio giving customers a huge variety of product options.
