Tata Motors has been focusing on launching cars that make a lot of sense in terms of overall value for money. Earlier in 2017, Tata Motors first launched the large 7 seater Hexa and then the subcompact sedan, the Tigor. Now, ready to launch third car in the marker in a year, Tata Motors has confirmed that the Nexon sub-4 metre subcompact SUV will be launched during festive season this year.
Nexon is expected to launch in September or October. It will be based on the same platform that underpins the likes of the Tata Bolt and Tata Zest. The Nexon will compete with the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Breeza, Nuvosport, Mahindra TUV 300 and the Ford Ecosport.
As far as the engines are concerned, the Nexon won’t feature the tried and tested 1.3-litre Multijet diesel engine sourced from Fiat India. Instead, the Nexon will get a new 1.5-litre diesel engine that is essentially the 4-cylinder version of the 1.05-litre engine that the Tiago and the Tigor get. The Nexon will also get a 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine – but not the same 1.2-litre turbo that was launched a few years ago in the Tata Bolt and Zest. Instead, the engine is actually the turbocharged version of the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder motor that is available in the Tiago and the Tigor.
Nexon was spied testing, undisguised and it revealed the modern design language that hasn’t been seen in this segment yet. It will come with two tone integration that is becoming really popular in India these years, the Nexon is sure to be head-turner. The front is very typical Tata face. The 16-inch alloy wheels and the design element right under the window line highlight the side profile. The rear look is very unique with the pincer style design and the slim window.
The interior of Nexon is spacious and well-built with new design elements like a floating screen and drive modes. Dashboard is glossy black with silver accent pieces with the option of a leather and cloth seats. The rear boot is spacious and rear seats also have huge leg space, head space and shoulder room for 3 passengers. The Nexon will also feature driving modes with a rotary selector knob on the central console. The Nexon also features a lot of storage space between the front seats.
