Kia has revealed the design sketches for its new upcoming subcompact SUV- the Stonic. The new Stonic is mainly Kia’s version of the new Hyundai Kona and will eventually be launched in India once Kia officially launches its car in India. The design language of new Stonic is more crossover like as compared to the larger SUVs from KIA that features a more conventional and upright SUV look and design. The Stonic will be launched globally by the end of 2017 and will be highly customizable.
When it will be launched in India, we can expect the new Stonic SUV to be sub 4 meters in length and compete against likes of Maruit Suzuki Vitara Breeza, the Ford Ecosport and a number of SUVs from Mahindra. It will also compete with the upcoming Tata Nexon.
As far as its design is concerned, as already said, the Stonic takes a more crossover like approach just like the Kona. However, as compared to the Kona, the design is a lot more subdued and will possibly be more preferred to the common Joe too. The front design is sporty and sharp and the Kia family grilled looks to be finished in a shade of satin grey along with a same painted front lip. The headlights have a resemblance to some of the larger SUVs in the Kia range and bonnet has a semi clamshell-like design.
The profile of the new Stonic looks typically SUV like with a smaller greenhouse to body proportion. The pronounced wheel arches and the side skirt feature a plastic cladding. We can expect Stonic to come with a set of 16-inch or 17-inch wheels. The Stonic also features a sloping roofline with a raked read bootlid. The slim LED tail lamps are well layered and the bumper has got satin grey skid plate.
The interior is very simple and is finished in a shade of black with a grey dashboard. The interior has also got orange accent pieces on the central tunnel and central console but we guess those will be customizable. The clean interior design also has a large centrally mounted screen- which will most probably be a touchscreen with inbuilt navigation, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The AC controls on the bottom show two large knobs with a centrally mounted screen for mode displays and temperature along with a silver design element that looks inspired by aeronautical controls.
Kia also claims that the Stonic will be the most customizable car in the lineup. This means it will have optional wheels, decal packs and interior packs with different color combinations. It will be available in both petrol and diesel option and we can expect India model to have both manual and an automatic gearbox.
