Small hatchback segment is again in limelight after the launch of Renault Kwid which is appreciated for its design and performance and has got more than 25,000 booking only in the first few days of its launch. In 2019, we can expect many new entries in the hatchback segment; both new and facelifts will be launched.
Maruti Ignis Hatchback
Maruti sensed the initial success Kwid would get and it started working on its rival the same long back. The all new Maruti Ignis launched in January.
The new hatchback from Maruti has many similarities with Kwid SUV like body, low cost, size and mileage. It is a compact crossover and is based on the IK-4 concept. It is available in both petrol and diesel variants. It is powered by 1.2 litre petrol and 1.3 litre diesel engine.
Price: Rs. 4 to 5 lakhs

Datsun Redigo Hatchback
Datsun’s latest hatchback, the Redigo has performed well for the Japanese carmaker in India. The Nissan subsidiary is now planning to launch the bigger 1.0 liter engine in the Redigo in July and might also include the AMT in it. Made on the Renault Kwid platform, the Datsun Redigo embraces the urban hatch design style unlike the crossover like looks of the Renault. As of now, the Datsun Redigo gets the 800cc three-cylinder engine that develops 52bhp of power and 72Nm of torque and comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The 1.0 liter petrol engine that will be a part of the line-up is a four-cylinder 67bhp petrol engine which is mated to a five –speed manual along with the option of a five-speed automated manual gearbox. The bigger engine will be offered only on the top-spec T trim and should ideally be priced between Rs 4 – 5 lakhs. It will be competing with the Renault Kwid 1.0 liter and the Maruti Suzuki Alto K10. The official booking for the Redigo 1.0 liter will start in the first week of July.
After the average response for its Go model, Datsun is all set to give tough competition to its rivals with its Redigo. It will be a compact crossover same as Kwid. It will be competing with Kwid, Hyundai Eon and Alto 800. It will probably have 799 cc engine very much similar to Kwid. The design will be very different from the same face like Go.

Maruti Alto 800 Hatchback
The small hatchback got nice limelight after a long dominance of Maruti. The car manufacturer knows that as they hold the maximum share of this segment it will rule the Indian automobile market. From long the facelift of Alto 800 was due and this time it got big additions and remained to be the bestselling car. The facelift version is fuel efficient.

Tata Kite Hatchback
For sure Indigo and Indigo ES has become old and are in their last state. Tata realized this on time and so launched Kite or Tigor just on time. Honda Jazz Hatchback
Honda recently launched the third generation of Jazz. And now the hatchback is available with new trim and an updated safety system. The manufacturer has added a hybrid variant to the Jazz range which is placed right below the top ‘V’ trim. Honda Jazz is powered by an i-VTEC 1.5 liter engine which produces 107 bhp. On the other hand, the hybrid version gets an electric motor and produces a combined power output of 167 bhp. The new Jazz gets a 7-speed dual clutch transmission.
Cosmetic updates are also done. Also, the safety features are updated by providing the ‘Honda-sensing’ technology. A sports trim with unique styling feature is another addition to this range. The Honda Jazz is expected to be available in India early next year. However, there is a very low probability that the Honda Jazz will introduce a hybrid trim for India. The will compete with Hyundai Elite i20 and Maruti Suzuki Baleno.
Tata Indica Vista Electric Hatchback
Tata Motors is come up with exclusive Tata Indica Vista Electric. The price range can be expected between Rs. 4 to 5 Lakh and it is expected to be launched by the end of this year. The all-electric versions of the Tata hatchback have got their first public showing at the Auto Expo. Tata Indica Vista is exactly the same as their conventional-engine-powered version. This version gets the addition of blue decals on both sides. In the inside, there is only the unique knob-like gear lever to tell it apart from the standard version run the same specification and is powered by a 3-phase AC induction motor with an output of 30kW at 4,500rpm
