Honda has revealed the official details of the 2018 Accord, for the first time. The sedan won’t have its renowned V6 in favor of more efficient turbocharged four-cylinder units. The new Accord will have three powertrain options – the 1.5 liter engine from the current car, a 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbocharged unit from the 2018 Civic Type R, and a hybriddrivetrain. In the new Accord, Honda will also launch a new 10 speed automatic transmission, for the first time.
Honda claims that the new Accord will be more stylish and fun-to-drive with a new ground-up design. The Camouflaged car teased here promises to have a more aggressive stance and better proportions than the outgoing model to complement the new powertrains. The Hybrid will get two next-gen two-motor hybrid systems. As of now, Honda hasn’t disclosed any power figures but are expected to reveal it soon in coming weeks with other technological details.
The entry level four-pot engine will be mated to either a 6 speed manual or a CVT automatic transmission. The type R’s turbocharged unit can be had with a six-speed manual or a ‘first for a front-wheel-drive car’ 10-speed automatic developed in-house by Honda. The Hybrid will get a conventional automatic transmission.
America’s favorite Japanese sedan will be made on a new platform shared with the new Civic. The modular platform will make the new Accord slightly smaller than the outgoing model; however, the Honda will now supply the same models globally. Production of the new Accord will start later in 2017, at Honda’s Ohio facility. In India, it is likely to be launched after a few years.
