SAIC has plans of introducing the MG brand by setting up shop in India and with this it will become the first Chinese manufacturer to establish shop in India. If reports are to be believe SAIC has registered ‘MG Motor India’ as their Indian subsidiary.
This won’t be the first operation of the SAIC in India as GM has been operating in India in partnership with the Chinese auto giant. With General Motors exiting the Indian market, SAIC is now looking to start afresh with the iconic MG brand from the UK.

MG Motor India has already started hiring people for its various departments. According to report, formed head of General Motors India, Rajeev Chabba will be the CEO. SAIC is finalizing the purchase of GM’s now non-operational manufacturing facility in Halol for the MG’s production. If everything goes as per the plans, then we could see MG models on road by the end of 2018 or early 2019.

In UK MG3 hatchback competes with the likes of the Kia Rio and the Ford Fiesta. In India, it will be competing against the Maruti Baleno, Hyundai Elite i20, Ford Figo etc. The UK-spec MG 3 comes with a 106 HP 1.5 L petrol engine. However, the Indian version is likely to get a smaller unit.
MG Cars India – MG GSIt is a well-known fact that Indians love SUVs. So, the MG GS could prove to be a perfect introduction to the MG brand in India. Depending on the rivals in UK and price, the GS will be placed above the Hyundai Creta. It will be competing with Honda HR-V, Renault Kaptur etc. In UK only petrol variant is available, but we can expect it to come in diesel engine in India.
