The current gen Mahindra Scorpio was launched in 2014 and hasn’t got any important updates since then. However, the Indian auto giant has been preparing its popular selling SUV for a comprehensive updated that is now sure to launch later this year. The Mahindra Scorpio facelift is expected to be launched towards the end of July or early August 2017 in India and will get major aesthetic updates, along with many new features. Along with the Scorpio, Mahindra is also expected to launch an updated XUV500 this year.
At outset, the 2017 Mahindra Scorpio facelift is expected to get a fully new front grille as well as the rear door. The plastic cladding on the new Scorpio is expected to be removed and will get body colored unit that is currently seen. Other changes will include tweaked front and rear lamps, bumpers and possibly new alloy wheels too. Don’t expect to see important changes to the silhouette on the SUV, but the new Scorpio is expected to get a more modern and pleasing look with the new version.
On the interior, expect to see a number of changes including a slightly reworked dashboard that will now have an updated infotainment system. The unit will be the same as the one seen in the Mahindra XUV500 that supports Android Auto, Ecosense, Connected Apps and the Emergency-Call feature that that connects you to the listed emergency contact, in case of an accident.
Don’t expect to see important updates under the hood. The tired and tested 2.2 liter mhawk diesel engine will remain same giving 120 bhp of power and 280 Nm of torque. The major update however, will be on the transmission line-up. The Scorpio facelift will get an upgraded 6 speed automatic gearbox on the SUV. This is the same unit that was installed on the XUV500 in 2015, and is known to give better shift response.
Despite strong completion coming from compact SUVs in this segment, the Mahindra Scorpio has been a consistent and strong seller and continues to be one of the more popular selling models for its brand. The facelift will only assist improve the SUV’s sales further as it will have some modern-day improvements against the likes of the Tata Safari Storme, Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster and the likes.
