Isuzu is all set to launch the much awaited Mu-X SUV in India on May 11. The MU-X will be Isuzu’s new flagship SUV set to replace the old MU-7. The car was expected to be launched in India last year after its appearance at 2016 Auto Expo. It went on sale in Thailand in early 2017, and is expected to launch in India in May 2017.
The MU-X SUV was first introduced in 2013 and has been on sale in international markets of Philippines, Indonesia, Laos, New Zealand and Australia. After the upgrade last year, the MU-X now comes with LED daytime running lights integrated alongside the projector units. The bumpers have been tweaked with a new roof-mounted spoiler and stylish 18-inch alloy wheels giving the SUV a modern look. The roof rails, wrap-around LED taillights and high ground clearance characterizes the new MU-X. The overall design philosophy is very much same to that of that of the Chevrolet Trailblazer.
As far as the interior of the MU-X is concerned, even it is feature-loaded. It is perfect for 7 people and the cabin now has more premium feel due to the leather-wrapped seats, door trims and steering wheel. There will be a touch-screen system paired with 6 speakers, supporting MP3, USB, i-Pod, Aux-in, Bluetooth and satellite navigation. Safety features of MU-X include traction control system, electronic stability control, brake assist, ABS with EBD and airbags.
As far as the engine is concerned, the MU-X will be powered by the same engine and transmission as the global model, a 3.0-litre diesel unit producing 174bhp and 380Nm. This power plant comes mated to a five-speed automatic gearbox. It’s not known yet as to whether the carmaker will introduce both the 2WD and AWD versions in the country.
It will be launched be competing with Toyota Fortuner, Ford Endeavour, Mitsubishi Pajero Sport, and Hyundai Santa Fe. Isuzu will locally assemble the MU-X at their new facility in SriCity near Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border.
