The 2017 BMW 5 Series is launching in India on 29 June. Internally called G30, this seventh generation car will be competing against the likes of the Volvo S90, Audi A6 and Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
The new BMW 5 Series is made on the OKL platform, its chassis is made from mix of carbon-fibre reinforced polymer (CFRP), aluminum and magnesium. As a result, the new 5 Series is almost 100 kg lighter as compared to the current F10 5 Series, despite it being bigger than the later. The styling is still typical BMW, although the LED lamps and the updated kidney grille give it a fresher look.
The longer wheelbase has made the cabin more spacious. The new iDrive system now supports gesture control. It lets you change the audio setup, vehicle setup, ambient lighting and other settings through the rotary knob, the steering mounted control and touchscreen. The intelligent remote key fob of the new 5 Series can assist you move your car from the outside, in a straight line.
As for the powertrain, it will be available in three trims: 520i, 520d and the 530d. It is expected to be priced at about Rs. 55 lakh for the entry-level trim while the top-spec model with the 3.0 liter straight six would cost about Rs. 65 lakh.
