Volkswagen, the popular German car manufacturer has finally revealed the Virtus sedan. It will be replacing the Vento in many countries like India, the 2018 VW Virtus is based on the MQB-based Polo. It will be debuted globally at the Sao Paulo, Brazil.
Underpinning the Virtus is the same MQB A0 platform that is already popular in a number of VW cars. The Virtus resembles the new Polo, especially till the B-pillar. Same as the Vento, the boot of the Virtus has been integrated very perfectly into what is ideally a hatchback design. This gives the car a perfect proportional look. The VW Virtus has a wheelbase of 2.65-metre and is 4.84-metre long. As compared to the Vento, the new sedan is 450 mm longer and provides a boot space of 521 liters.
The dashboard is same as Polo. It gets Volkswagen’s Active Info digital display, which is ideally a 10.25 inch screen, taking place of the conventional dials. The center console is flanked by a 8 inch touchscreen unit for the infotainment system. As is the standard, the unit supports MirroLink, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
The Virtus will come with a number of engines. The 200 TSI is basically a 1.0 L TSI turbocharged petrol engine that gives a maximum power of 128 hp when using ethanol and 115 hp when using petrol. The engine outputs a maximum torque of 200 Nm. The sedan will also offer a 1.6 L petrol engine with maximum power of 117 hp along with a peak torque of 162 Nm. While the 200 TSI motor comes mated to a 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, the 1.6 L engine gets a 5-speed manual gearbox. For India, the sedan will probably offer a 1.5 L turbocharged Diesel engine with a 6-speed manual transmission.
